PROGRESS REPORT

Progress - such a wonderful concept with the puppy who will be 2 years old in 2 weeks. When he arrived in NY for his extended "vacation" people warned us that labs tend to be puppies until they are 3 or more. Yeah, that sounds about right. But the little guy has made progress in the 2 months that his Mama has been here - I can now come down to the computer at 6 am and he doesn't bark - as a matter of fact, he doesn't even get up! He no longer feels a need to warn us of an impending invasion of the Huns every time Grandpa comes home from work. And he'll sometimes just stay asleep in the chair when the garage door opens. He no longer barks when he sees the little dog across the street, and even let the next door neighbors have workmen at their house without setting off any alarms.

But - he still thinks that some of us are puppies and that if he puts his (soft) mouth on us it will get us to play, and he still thinks that if it is edible and within his (very long) reach he is entitled to eat it (i.e. almost 4 oz of chicken jerky). He thinks that tissues are cotton candy.

But if he is fast asleep and I say: "Asher, car?" he pops up his head. And if I say: "Let's go get Mommy" he runs for the garage. Who can resist?
